Consider the limitations of AIÌý

GenAI and other AI tools are incredible tools that can help you become more efficient, productive and skillful in your career journey and at work. However, we encourage you to strongly consider the limitations of GenAI use as you use these new and changing AI tools:Ìý

  1. GenAI is not always accurate. Check the work of any GenAI tool you use including everything from punctuation and grammar to deeper meanings. Do not use GenAI tools to source information or cite articles, publications, etc.
  2. AI cannot write in your voice. Your unique writing style will only be apparent if you integrate GenAI content into your own rather than using it as a replacement. Never use GenAI to replace your voice. It's up to you to amplify your own expertise.
  3. Do not let GenAI provide all of the interview answers for you. Your capacity to think critically is important and you will not always have GenAI in an interview real-time.ÌýSpend time developing your prompting skills, and save prompts that generate the best answers for you. Although GenAI systems are incredibly knowledgeable, they are limited by your prompting ability. Good prompts = good outputs.
  4. AI systems may not be connected to real-time data and information. Things like relevant, up-to-date news, company culture, hiring trends and more may not be reflected accurately as you use GenAI. While GenAI can enhance your job search, you should complement its use with personalized strategies to ensure a well-rounded approach.
  5. Privacy and security. GenAI tools train themselves with your data. We recommend using Copilot as your GenAI tool of choice at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø because the university has a standing agreement with Microsoft, which provides a higher level of security compared to free versions of GenAI like ChatGPT or Claude. If you choose to use GenAI tools outside of Copilot, we recommend navigating to your privacy settings and disabling data sharing. Look for anything that talks about training AI models or data sharing to ensure your data is protected. Always be cognizant of entering private or confidential data into GenAI tools.
